"Lebanon and the UN - two intertwined struggles in the Middle East" - a study trip from 1st - 8th August 2009
It’s the lack of understanding and tolerance as well as the fear of what we don’t know which often leads to conflicts between groups of people separated by geographical, cultural or religious barriers. The only way how these barriers can be overcome is to embrace intercultural dialogue and engage in an active learning process about other regions, cultures and religions. This might be truer in the Middle East than anywhere else in the world.
Join us on an unforgettable journey to a country which has been in the centre of the turmoils the Middle East has experienced and learn about its history, current political situation and the role of the UN through meetings with various represantives from the different actors (government, oposition, foreign actors, UN etc.)

Start of the trip: 1st August, 18:00

Beirut plus excursions outside of the capital
Program:
- Various meetings with representatives of the different actors in the country
- Excursions to important sights
- Group-internal discussions
Conditions for participation:
- Thorough knowledge of English (the whole trip will be in English)
- Open-minden and tolerant
- Robust (it's going to be very hot in Lebanon)

LEBIMUN (Lebanon International Model United Nations):
Prior to the study-trip, hundreds of international students will meet in Beirut for the 1st edition of the LEBIMUN. Since we are in close contact with the organizers of LEBIMUN, we strongly encourage everybody, but especially participants of the IFIL study trip to also participate in LEBIMUN.
